"I can't do it! I can't do this!" I sobbed as I frantically paced back and forth.
"Yun, don't be ridiculous." Chungae said.
"I'm not being ridiculous! I'm TERRIFIED!"
"What's there to be terrified of? You're marrying the love of your life!"
"But…there are so many people out there…"
Chungae face-palmed. She was clearly not impressed with my shyness.
"Don't pay attention to them. All that matters is you and Jonghyun." she said.
Someone knocked on the door.
"Yun, it's me. How's it going in there?" my mom asked from the other side of the door.
"Eomma come in quick!" I ran to the door and opened it for her.
"Yun-ah, what's wrong?" she asked as I hugged her tightly and sobbed hysterically.
"She's nervous." Chungae explained.
"Don't be nervous, honey, there's nothing to be nervous of." my mom said, stroking my hair in a gentle and soothing manner.
"But what if I trip when I go down the aisle?" I whimpered.
"That won't happen. Your father will keep a firm grip on you."
"But-"
"No buts, missy. Your wedding will be starting in less than one hour and you STILL don't have your dress on! Now pull yourself together so you can marry Jonghyun!" eomma scolded me.
"Yes, eomma." I sighed.
I walked to my closet and unzipped the large bag that contained my wedding dress. Eomma helped me get into it and she zipped it up at the back. As she appraised me, I could see her eyes glaze over.
"Yun-ah, you look so beautiful." she said.
I walked over to the large stand-up mirror to see for myself. My make-up and hair had taken an hour and a half to do. The make-up on my eyes was dark but stunning, and I had a light pink lipstick on. My dark hair was up in a bun while my bangs ended just above my eyes.
Next I looked at my dress. It was long and it had a poofy bottom with a small train. At the top it had a sweetheart neckline, and it was strapless.
"Yun, you look amazing!" Soojin – who had hardly said anything that day – said.
"You look like a princess!" Chungae chimed in.
"Thanks, guys." I smiled at them.
Since they were both my best friends, I had decided to make them both my maids of honour. Never in a million years would I ever be able to choose between them.
"You both look gorgeous, by the way." I added.
I had picked out lilac-purple dresses that ended just above their knees for them. Soojin's hair was down and curled while Chungae's hair was up in a side ponytail. As for their shoes, they wore lilac-purple stilettos.
Just then, another knock came from the other side of the door.
"Yun, it's appa. Is it safe to come in?" my dad asked.
"Yes, come in." I called.
Appa quickly slipped in the door and shut it behind him. His eyes widened as soon as he saw me, and his lip started quivering.
"Appa, are you alright?" I asked.
He nodded slowly.
"You look so…grown up…" he said.
"Well, I AM an adult." I joked.
"It's hard to believe my little girl is going off to start her own family."
"I know how you feel, dear." eomma sighed.
"As for you, young lady, you look at least ten years younger! You look just as beautiful now as you did on OUR wedding day!" dad said, hugging mom from behind and kissing her neck.
"Cool it down, kids. You can flirt more later." I said.
Soojin cleared her throat to get our attention. She then pointed at the clock, signaling that it was time to assemble for the wedding. The crazy butterflies that had passed for a short period of time came back in full force.
"Oh goodness, look at the time! I'd better go sit down." eomma said as she kissed mine and my father's cheeks before leaving.
Chungae and Soojin also left to go find their aisle-walking partners. As soon as they left, appa turned to me with a serious face.
"Are you sure you want to do this? It's not too late to back out, Yun." he said.
I took a deep breath before answering.
"I love him with all my heart, appa. I want to be with him forever." I replied.
Appa nodded as he sighed.
"Well then, I guess we'd better go." he said.
He opened the door of the dressing room to the hallway, and I walked carefully to the doors that led to the main church. We had chosen a cute little chapel in Seoul to be married in. There were lilacs and white lace all throughout the church. Prior to being engaged, I had always known that I wanted a simple wedding. This was exactly what I had wanted.
"Yun, you look amazing!" Taemin said as soon as he saw me.
I looked up and saw that our friends were all ready and standing in the proper order. Taemin was our "flower boy" (he had requested that role for himself), and next to him was our ring bearer, Key. Behind them were Chungae and Minho, followed by Onew and Soojin.
"You look quite handsome, yourself." I smiled at Taemin.
"Are we ready to start?" Key asked.
I nodded, and Key gave a thumbs up to the piano player (who was Jonghyun's sister, Songdam). Songdam began playing the wedding march, and the first pair began walking down the aisle. Taemin elegantly tossed his flower petals as Key strode down with the rings. Minho and Chungae followed the first pair, smiling as they walked. Onew and Soojin were next, and they both looked very shy.
My heartbeat increased as I realized it was my turn to walk down the aisle. I closely followed appa and I stared at the ground to hide my blushing face.
"Yun, look UP!" appa hissed at me.
I did as I was instructed, and I instantly made eye contact with my groom. Jonghyun flashed me his breathtaking smile, and I smiled widely back at him. He then winked, which caused me to blush immensely and look down again. As we reached the end of the aisle, I looked up again and saw Jonghyun's hand stretched out to take mine. I placed my hand in his and he clasped onto it.
As Jonghyun helped me up onto the stage, he whispered into my ear.
"Are you ready?" he asked in a hushed voice.
I nodded.
"Let's do this." I whispered back.
